Happy Holidays

We had a lot of fun on Thursday with our holiday activities.  We made poinsettia flowers and reindeer, acted out a reindeer story, sang the reindeer pokey and ate reindeer crunchies...our special snack.  We also enjoyed the school sing-along and playing holiday bingo.  Our pizza and fruit lunch was a big hit as well!!  We played a game as part of our gift exchange as well.  Thanks to those of you who contributed items or your time to our day.  We appreciate you!

Friday was a relaxing day in our pajamas!  We wrapped our gifts for our parents, made reindeer food for Christmas Eve and enjoyed watching The Polar Express!

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and thank you for the gifts for the classroom and myself.  It was nice of you to think of me.

We also celebrated Miss Berner's last day with us by presenting her with a special poster.  Each child added his/her hand print and name to the poster to remember us by. We are lucky that Miss Berner is staying in the area and will be able to stop in to see us again!

You will notice this week there is no newsletter, homework or reading books.  Enjoy your holiday!

Happy Holidays

It's the time of year that is both busy and fun!  It's the holidays!  We are learning about many different holidays and traditions around the world throughout the month of December.  We began last week with a couple of Christmas felt board stories and making a paper chain to count down the days until Christmas.  This week we have been learning about France's paper cracker tradition, Hanukkah - both lighting the menorah and the dreidel game, Germany - who started the Christmas tree tradition, and Sweden's St. Lucia Day where the oldest daughter brings breakfast in bed to the rest of her family.  Next week we look forward to learning about Kwanzaa-the flag, the lighting of the kinara and the masks, England's tradition of sending cards and making cookies, and Spain and Mexico's holiday flower-the poinsettia.  We will also have two days dedicated to reindeer fun - we will read both fiction and nonfiction books about reindeer, make reindeer snacks and create reindeer art.  We will end the week with our holiday "party" - a pizza lunch on Thursday, along with a few fun activities and our book gift exchange and on Friday - pajama day and The Polar Express movie with popcorn and hot cocoa.

Please remember to send in: a new, wrapped book (girls bring a book for a girl, boys for a boy) for our gift exchange.  Also, please be sure to send in your donation for the party (if you received a note) by Wednesday, December 19th.

Happy Holidays!
